I use a range of different therapy frameworks when working with individuals. Although I am trained in other modalities, the approaches listed below are the types of therapy I use the most often. I like to be transparent about my approach with my clients. The approach we use will depend on your presenting issues, and the style of therapy that works best for your individual circumstances.
Regardless of the the therapeutic modality I am using, several core principles will always inform the way I work. I have an empathetic and non-judgemental approach. I like to be collaborative, and I respect that each person is the expert in knowing the complexity of their unique experience. I believe it is always important to recognise we can be empowered to make choices which change our experiences in life. I also believe it is important to recognise that we are a product of the cultural, economical, and familial circumstances we are born into.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured and goal-oriented approach. It centers on the identification and modification of dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviors associated with various mental health conditions. CBT aims to facilitate positive changes by addressing and altering unhelpful thinking processes, and by interrupting unhelpful pattern of behaviour. This evidence-based therapeutic approach is collaborative, involving active participation and cooperation between the therapist and the individual seeking treatment. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in treating a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) is a therapeutic method focusing on understanding and transforming emotional experiences for personal growth. Rooted in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EFIT extends these principles to individuals. It emphasizes exploring and processing emotions collaboratively to enhance self-awareness and promote positive change. By fostering a secure therapeutic relationship, EFIT helps people address problematic patterns in relationships, unresolved emotional experiences, and negative views of self. Drawing from the principles of Attachment Theory, EFIT helps people to balance healthy and innate desires for closeness and exploration.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a therapeutic approach designed to strengthen and repair intimate relationships by focusing on emotional connections. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFCT identifies and works with the underlying emotional patterns that shape interactions between partners. The therapy emphasizes creating a secure emotional bond within the relationship, promoting open communication, and fostering mutual understanding. EFCT typically involves helping couples recognize and express their emotions, reshape negative patterns, and establish new, healthier ways of relating to each other. By prioritizing emotional connection, EFT aims to enhance relationship satisfaction and resilience.
