Education
I completed my 4-year Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology; First Class Honours) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2017.
I began studying a Master of Clinical Psychology degree at the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2019. As part of this degree, I completed a year long internship in the UQ Psychology Clinic. I then completed two external placements as a provisional psychologist in government facilities for people with complex mental health difficulties.
I have sought accreditation as a couples therapist through a process of professional development, and supervision, and review. I hold accreditation as a certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist with the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (ICEEFT)
My professional background
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in residential facilities for adolescents with mental health difficulties. I also worked as a senior research technician in a research team focused on substance use and mental health. While completing my masters degree, I worked on helplines focused on counseling and support for people navigating the family law system. Before beginning work in private practice I worked for 18 months as a gambling counselor.
My current work
I began working in private practice in 2022 after graduating from my master's degree and obtaining general registration as a psychologist. I began my solo private practice, Solar Psychology, at the end of 2023. I currently spend half my time working with adults, couples, and adolescents in private practice. I spend the other half of my week working for a public, government service. This service is focused on case management and therapy for young people and families with complex mental health difficulties.
Why I am a therapist
Being a therapist is a profound privilege as people give me the opportunity to hear some of their most intimate thoughts and feelings. I get to help people as they better themselves and survive through challenging experiences. I find it emotionally and intellectually rewarding to be a therapist.
